The Lord Birkett Memorial trophy has been placed number 8 just ahead of the Prince of Wales Cup but lagging slightly behind the Fastnet.  Of course committed readers to the web site will already know that the Birkett is the must do event.

  • Privileges and Obligations:
    The privilege of membership of the Club carries with it the obligation to perform such duties as are necessary for the functioning of the Club, if and when called upon.

     

  • Adopted Classes:
    The following classes have been adopted within the Club:
    a) International Tempest
    b) Laser
    c) Topper
    d) Hunter19/Europa Fin Keel type
    e) Laser SB3
    In addition the club has adopted the following non Class groups
    f) Sailboards
    g) Cruisers of not more than 25 feet 6 inches may be admitted at the discretion of the Committee subject to availability of a suitable mooring.
    i) Asymmetrical Dinghy/open Keelboat Handicap
    j) Symmetrical Dinghy/open Keelboat Handicap

     

  • Additional Craft
    a) After completion of one year’s membership a member, other than a Cadet, Junior or Student Member, may on application to the Committee and on their written authority, bring to the Club an additional craft at a fee to be decided by the Committee. If the craft in question does not belong to one of the adopted classes, it may nevertheless be accepted provided it is of a design which is, in the opinion of the Committee, likely to form the nucleus of a new adopted class.
    b) The number and type of additional craft allowed to be kept at the Club will be reviewed periodically by the Committee, who may instruct the owner to remove such craft after a reasonable trial period has elapsed.

     

  • Insurance
    All craft kept or used at the Club must carry adequate third party insurance.
  • Boats
    a) The Honorary Membership Secretary shall, upon payment of a member’s boat or tender fees, provide the member with self-adhesive numbered labels. The member shall forthwith display these labels on the transom of each boat or tender, above the waterline, and shall paint or mark the same number on any boat trailer belonging to them.
    b) Members may only keep boats on the club site if they have been allocated a specific berth space for that boat. Berth space is entirely at the discretion of the Management Committee and will be allocated on a seasonal basis.
    c) A member wishing to change his type of boat must first obtain permission of the Committee.
    d) It is the responsibility of each berth holder to keep the grass cut, the berth area tidy and the boat secure.
    e) All dinghies must be secured by the ground links provided to prevent movement of the craft which would cause damage to neighbours.
    f) All dinghies must be removed from the site by the end of the November series.
    i. No boat may be left in the car park after April 1st
    ii. No boat to be left on its mooring after the end of the November series except with the express permission of the Committee.
    g) Except for reasonable maintenance purposes, no boat may be left on the site after the first weekend in May unless it is in its designated berth
    h) Boat trailers must be placed in the trailer park when not in use. A fee will be charged for storage of boat trailers in the park.
    i) If at any time fees payable to the Club by any member or former member shall be three months or more in arrears, and a vessel the property of a member or former member remains upon the Club premises, the Committee may:-
    i. After giving notice in writing and with normal care, move the vessel to another part of the Club premises without being liable for any loss or damage to the vessel howsoever caused.
    ii. Give one month’s notice in writing to the member or former member at his last known address as shown in the Club Register and thereafter sell the vessel and deduct any monies due to the club (whether by way of arrears of subscription or annual payments, mooring fees, dinghy park fees or otherwise) from the net proceeds of sale before accounting for the balance (if any) to the member or former member.
    iii. Alternatively, if the vessel is un-saleable, after giving notice in writing as aforesaid, dispose of the vessel in any manner the Committee may think fit and deem the cost of doing so and any arrears as aforesaid to be debt owing to the Club by the member or former member.
    iv. Provided always that proper evidence is available to show that all reasonable steps have been taken to trace a member or former member and that when and if the vessel is sold the proceeds of sale (less any indebtedness by the member or former member to the Club) shall be placed upon bank deposit account and retained against the eventuality of a claim by the owner (whether they be the said member or former member or otherwise) for a period of six years.
    v. If any boats, trailers or other ancillary equipment are left in unauthorised positions, the Committee has the power to move such boats, trailers or other ancillary equipment at the risk and expense of the member.

     

  • Club Moorings
    a) It is the responsibility of each owner to ensure that both his moorings and craft are secure and in particular do not foul any other craft at all times. If for any reason a member is unable to attend to his own craft personally, he must make alternative arrangements for seeing that security is maintained. In the event that a member fails to comply with this bylaw, the Committee reserves the right to deal with the matter in whatever way they consider Appropriate at the member’s own risk and cost. The Club Mooring Raft shall not be used to lay any individual weight in excess of the Safe Working Load displayed upon the raft or upon the chain hoist thereon.
    b) Moorings shall be in use by the 1st May in each season. In default, the Committee reserves the right to allocate such mooring to another member. Each member shall confirm with the owner of the tackle that it is adequate, and shall be responsible for any damage suffered whether to the mooring or to the club or to any other member’s property.

     

  • Jetties Rules and code of conduct
    a) Shall be used with consideration for other members.
    b) All jetty users shall comply with the Code of Practice for Jetty Users, which will be displayed in the clubhouse.

     

  • Launching, Recovery and Berthing of Cruisers and Keelboats
    The current rules and procedure for launching, recovery and berthing of Cruisers will be displayed in the clubhouse. Launching and recovery must be undertaken in accordance with these rules current at the time.

     

  • Buoyancy Aids
    Adequate personal buoyancy aids shall be worn at all times by members when racing, and when crewing the safety boats.

     

  • Participation in Racing
    a) Any Full, Family or Student Member may participate in Club Racing, always provided that current requirements of ISAF/RYA/UYC and individual classes are met.
    b) Members under the age of 17 including Cadet and Family Members may participate without an adult in Club Racing providing that the parents or guardian sign the Declaration of Acknowledgement. Such Declaration shall be countersigned by an Officer of the Club.
    c) Members under 14 years may participate in junior racing specifically put on for them.
    d) Additionally Members under the age of 14 may participate without an adult in club racing only if they have deemed to have achieved the standard of RYA level 2 or above by the Club’s Training Officer and if the signing on sheet is counter-signed by a parent or guardian who will by signing indicate that their child is competent in the prevailing conditions.
    e) The Honorary Sailing Secretary shall keep a Register of such Members for whom Declarations of Acknowledgement have been countersigned, and a copy of this shall be posted in the Race Office. The parents or guardians of any such members attempting to take part in racing when not so registered may be subject to disciplinary procedures under article 18 of the Club’s Memorandum and Articles of Association.

     

  • Safety Craft and Duties
    a) The Safety Officer is responsible to the Committee for the efficient maintenance of the safety boats and their engines and may request the assistance of other Club members as he/she shall see fit.
    b) The Safety Officer shall at least annually make suitable arrangements for the training of novices in the handling of Safety Boats and in safety procedures.
    c) It shall be the duty of each member to seek such advice as he/she may need regarding safety duty skills.
    d) All safety craft when not in use shall be secured at their respective moorings.
    e) During racing the safety boats are under the overall control of the Principal Race Officer.
    f) No person is permitted to use a safety boat for purpose other than at the direction of the Principal Race Officer or an Officer of the Club.
    g) No person under the age of 18 shall be allowed to control a safety craft, except persons aged 16 or 17 provided they hold an RYA Level 2 Powerboat Certificate. Such persons shall at all times be accompanied by a person approved by one of the following club members. RYA Powerboat Instructor, Safety Boat Officer, or an Officer of the Club.
    h) No person under the age of sixteen shall be allowed to crew a safety craft.
    i) When not in use, the fuel for the safety craft shall be kept in the store provided and the key to the store delivered to the Club Manager.

     

  • Site Rules
    a) The road gate will be kept closed when notified.
    b) The wood and surrounding fields are out of bounds except when arrangements have been made for access.
    c) All members must ensure that the site including the Clubhouse is clean and tidy. Litter and rubbish must be put in the bins provided. Crockery and glasses must be returned to the kitchen and bar respectively after use.
    d) Clothing and other equipment must not be left in the changing rooms after visits. The Committee reserves the right to dispose of clothing that has been left for an unreasonable period.
    e) No person is permitted to sleep overnight in the Clubhouse. On receipt of a complaint and confirmation of persons sleeping in the Clubhouse, the Commodore shall have authority to suspend that person’s membership until the next Committee meeting, when the Committee may proceed under article 18 of the Club’s Memorandum and Articles of Association.
    f) Camping
    i. Caravans are not allowed on the site for any purpose.
    ii. Motorised caravans are not to be used for overnight sleeping on the site.
    iii. Camping is only permitted in the camping field on such occasions and in such numbers as the Committee, having regard to the Planning Regulations, shall from time to time determine.
    iv. Fees shall be charged for camping in accordance with the scale laid down by the Committee and published on the notice board in the Clubhouse.
    g) Dogs
    i. It is the responsibility of each owner to ensure that their dog does not behave in a manner which causes annoyance or nuisance to others.
    ii. Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.
    iii. Members must ensure that their dogs are not allowed on the front lawn or in the Clubhouse at any time, do not foul any part of the Club site and that, if they do so, the owner of the dog will attend to the disposal of such fouling.
    h) Clubhouse
    i. No person is allowed in the carpeted area of bar and the upper lounge when wearing WET clothing (including footwear).
    i) The front lawns are to be used exclusively for the rigging and launching of boats, and for spectators and social events. All games are restricted to the rear of the site except for organised Club events.
    j) Any person who has been expelled from membership of the Club shall not be allowed to visit the Club. No member may sign in such a person.

     

  • Organisation of Open Meetings
    a) The sailing Committee may approve such Open Meetings as it considers will meet the objectives of the Club.
    b) The income and expenditure statements of Open meetings shall be correctly completed and handed to the Treasurer within fourteen days of the completion of the event.

     

  • Duties of Officials and Members
    a) The duties and responsibilities of Club Officials are set out in the Officers job description
    b) If any member of fails to turn up for their allotted duty without arranging a substitute, the Sailing Committee shall report his name to the Committee for consideration of disciplinary procedures under article 18 of the Club’s Memorandum and Articles of Association.

     

  • The Kitchens
    a) The main kitchen is not to be used by members except with the permission of an Officer of the Club.
    b) The small kitchen is for the use of members and their guests only and shall be kept in a clean and tidy condition at all times. The kettle or any other utensil provided is not to be removed.

     

  • The Bar
    a) The Club Manager is responsible to the Committee for the running of the Bar
    b) No person is permitted to act in a disorderly manner in the bar. The Manger may request any person acting in a disorderly manner to leave the bar and on doing so report the circumstances to the Committee.
    c) The bar shall at all times be conducted in accordance with the Licensing Acts and the Memorandum and Articles of Association, and no person under the age of fourteen shall be permitted in the lower bar lounge.
    d) No person is permitted to be behind the bar without the permission of the Club Manager.
    e) Only alcohol purchased from the Club bar may be consumed in the Clubhouse.
    f) No smoking is allowed anywhere in the Clubhouse.

     

  • Sub Committees
    The following subsections must be read in conjunction with article 61 of the Club’s Memorandum and Articles of Association.
    a) To facilitate Club business the Management Committee may at their discretion request one or more of their members to form a sub committee to report back to the Management Committee on a specialist matter or on a matter that needs further consideration.
    b) In neither case will the sub committees have any powers other than in an advisory capacity and have no budget other than necessary expenses enabling their task(s) to be undertaken. These expenses must have already have been authorised by the Management Committee.
    c) All correspondence must be on official Club headed notepaper provided by the Hon. Secretary and the writer must make clear that he/she is working as part of an advisory committee with no authority to commit the Club or its elected Officers in any way.
    d) Such sub committees should be provided with a written brief from the Management Committee and on completion of the task the sub committee should then be disbanded.
    e) All activities of any such sub committees should be fully written into the minutes of the Management Committee on referral or completion.
    f) The sub committee can co-opt expertise as required, but the formation of the core sub committee should be agreed by the Management Committee.
    g) An agenda and meeting notes must be provided to the Management Committee after every sub committee meeting.
    h) All sub committees should be chaired by a member nominated by the Management Committee

     

  • Interpretation
    These Bylaws are in addition to the Memorandum and Articles of Association to which members are also referred. Where there is any ambiguity or discrepancy between the Memorandum and Articles of association and these Bylaws, the Memorandum and Articles of Association shall take precedence.
