Sailing Dinghies
- Space in the dinghy park is limited, so please ensure that your boat is on a launching trolley rather than a road trailer as these take up too much space.
- To avoid damage to your own and nearby boats it is essential that it is securely tied down - Ullswater winds can be fierce!
- In the winter dinghies should be removed from the site by Nov.15th. If you are unable to take your boat home winter storage may be available. This must be booked in advance.
Cruisers
- The club administers moorings (for Dalemain Estates) in Club Bay and North Bay., (There is a maximum length of 25’ 6”,for boats moored at the club). There is a long waiting list for these moorings; they are allocated by seniority of membership.
- However, moorings are readily available in other bays on the lake (where you’ll find lots of our members!).
Sharrow Bay and Gayle Bay are the most convenient for the club.
- Further information regarding lake mooring can be obtained by contacting:
Dalemain Estates Office Monday to Thursday during office hours.
Tel: 017684-86450 Fax: 017684 86223 E-mail: estates@dalemain.com
Winter storage is available, however it is becoming a problem; the club cannot guarantee space for cruisers - although we do usually accommodate most people!
Insurance
- All craft must be covered by adequate 3rd party insurance.
- The club obtains favourable terms (especially for cruisers) from:
B.E.Thompson & Co. Ltd. (insurance brokers). Tel.01748-850250. Alternatively ask Bill Powton, our club manager, for a form.
Camping
- We have a small campsite for tents only. Restrictions to camping have been imposed by the National Park. There are times when we can have full use of the site, and others when we are restricted to 12 tents only. Full details are provided in the club sailing programme.
- Caravans are not permitted on site. Motor caravans can only be used for overnight sleeping on the dates shown in the sailing programme.
Duties
- Prospective members should be aware that U.Y.C. is a club run largely by the voluntary efforts of the members and that it is a condition of membership that you be prepared to undertake a duty - usually only one weekend a season, as either Race officer or as part of the Rescue Team.
- Regular training sessions are held for both duties so don’t panic! In any event there are always experienced members available to give advice. If you have any concerns about this please let us know.
- Rescue and race officer duties are published in the Sailing Programme
- Volunteers are also appreciated for open events and working parties. Help in the kitchen is welcome at busy times. These occasions provide good opportunities to meet and get to know other club members.
Young People
- Parents and guardians are responsible for the safety and conduct of their children both on and off the water. The Club cannot be expected to exercise supervision or control. Safety cover is only provided for youngsters who are participating in organized club racing.
- All children under 16 must be in the care of a responsible adult when on club premises, and must wear a suitable life jacket / buoyancy aid when on or near the water.
Through the season the Club Manager, Bill Powton, is on site at weekends (and often during the week). You will find Bill especially helpful; he can usually solve most problems!
We pride ourselves on being a friendly, welcoming club.
