News from the UYC New Clubhouse Group

I would like to thank all of the Members who over the Easter Weekend came and saw the Preferred Scheme, the Fly Past Video, the other Shortlisted Scheme and some of the more bizarre entries.
Whilst there was some interest in the other schemes the majority view by a long way was that the scheme by Architects Plus is the true Winner of the RIBA Design Competition. There was real excitement in what the scheme gives on improved space, views, flood defence and flexibility.
Many good questions and comments were raised about the scheme and answers to these will be posted on the website and in the clubhouse. They are in the main items that we had already picked up and will be addressed in the Design and Planning Phase that will be brought to the AGM for approval.
At the last AGM we gave a presentation on the Financial Model that showed how with Gift Aid and Internal and External Fund Raising we could by 2016 proceed with the New Clubhouse. As one of the main recurring questions over the Weekend was “Can we afford the New Clubhouse?” we will send out a letter to all Members in June that provides an update on Costs and projections. This will enable Members to ask questions ahead of this year’s AGM on the current status and the process for ongoing updates on cost estimates and fund raising and, when Members approvals would be sought to go for tender and then award.
The boards showing the Winning Scheme will remain up in the bar area and you can, through the following link to the Architects Plus website, get to their projects pages which show the full story of now the Winning Scheme:
