UYC Boat Turns Up Down Under

UYC Boat Turns Up Down Under

We recently received an e-mail from Graham Bell saying he had just bought a GP14 in Nelson, New Zealand.  The boat, No. 10733 had an Ullswater Yacht Club sticker on the transom. Graham, a member of Nelson Yacht Club was entering the boat in the Classic and Antique Boat Festival on Nelson Lake and wanted to know if we had any history of this GP.

Enquiries revealed that the boat was owned in the 1970s by a Dr RA Blair fro Hollingworth Lake and was called Black Tulip.  The trail goes cold after 1983 when Dr Blair is shown as still owning the boat.

Enquiries then led to Graham Knox, a leading member of the GP14 Association in the UK. Graham's information shows that the boat reappeared in 1987 and was sailed on Derwent Reservoir.   It disappeared off the radar again and finally turned up in New Zealand.  If anyone can remember this boat when it was at Ullswater UYC please let me know and I will pass the details on to Graham.(pauline.thompson@ullswateryachtclub.org)
