Season Off to a Good Start

In the Island series for the cruisers, the event was dominated by Hunters, Sam Harding and Richard Sealby making the best of the windy conditions to come out on top. They were followed home by Ray Harle and Neil Sayer with third place going to single handed Chris Barnfield.

The race for tempests and dinghies was won by Matty and James Lyons sailing a 49er skiff. Second place went to Dave and Sue Giles in a Flying Fifteen and Lester Noble came home third in his International Canoe.

A good turnout for the Cadet sailors saw 11 boats take to the water braving the gusts to enjoy two races on Saturday. The first gave Philip Brooks a victory in his Topper, April and Jamie Whiteley sailing their Mirror claimed second place with third going to Will Melling also in a Topper. In the second race, April & Jamie took first, Will Melling second and Jayne Golden came third in another Topper.

Sunday brought worse conditions and fewer sailors willing to brave the elements. In the first of three races for asymmetric dinghies, Matty & James Lyons in the 49er came in first, the 29er of Anne Noble & Chris Brooks second and John Robson third in his International Canoe. The 49er of Lester Noble and Adam Ovington was victorious in the second race closely followed by the Lyons brothers. Anne Noble and Chris Brooks took third. Lester and Adam in first place with Matty & James second were the only two finishers in the third race.

Three Lasers were the only conventional dinghies to race in their series starter and only went out for two of the three races. Josh Moran took the first with John Lyons second and Sue Harding third. John Lyons claimed the victory in the second race, Josh Moran second and Sue Harding third.

Just two Tempests went out for just two of their three races, both being won by Ian Modral and Robin Higgens, with Mike Adams and Steve Gaughan second.
