UYC gets in Olympic Mood

The Gold medal was won by Matty and James Lyons sailing their 49er. In Silver place came Josh Moran in a Laser with Anne Noble and Chris Brooks taking Bronze with their 29er.

All this came at the end of a very successful Open Day organised by the Club to attract new members. More than 50 visitors arrived at the Ullswater club ranging from single adults to families with young children. They were treated to a great experience seeing the facilities of the club and were able to sample the delights of sailing in a range of dinghies and cruising yachts. The culmination of the Open Day was the model boat competition where children of all ages made models in true Blue Peter fashion and then set them free from the jetty to be blown ashore to decide a winner. The model with the best name was judged to be ROLO made by Joseph Lister. The best design was a joint affair between Sophie, Amy and Ella who made Diamond Racer and the eventual race winner was Rebecca Brears with her Golden Unicorn.

Sunday Club racing continued in light winds for the points series. In the cruiser fleet, Ray Harle with Robin Stanley sailed their Hunter into 1st place with Robin Barratt and Nigel Hampson bringing their Etap home in 2nd.

He conventional dinghies had 2 races, the first being won by Ian and Pat Priestley in a Flying Fifteen with Dave and Sue Giles second also in a Fifteen. David Sykes sailed his Blaze into third. The Giles pairing took the second race with the Priestleys second.

Two boats contested three races for the asymmetric fleet, Anne Noble and Chris Brooks taking the first 2 races in a 29er followed by Gordon Brooks and Denise Sykes in a Laser 2000. Those positions were reversed in the final race of the day.
