Ullswater Regatta charity event raises £637

Ullswater Regatta charity event raises £637

A total of 46 boats took part in Ullswater Regatta and at the same time the club held a raffle and collection to raise funds jointly for the RNLI and the Pride of Cumbria Air Ambulance in memory of well-respected members who have passed away over the past year and are sadly missed.
Club Commodore Peter Lewis said: “We thought this was an appropriate way to remember David Ashton, Gordon Carr, Peter Ward, Phil Brownrigg, Grace Moreton and Ralph Carter and we are delighted to have raised £637 which will be split between the two charities.”
The Sharrow Bay Hotel, which is next to UYC on the lake, has already supported this initiative by kindly refunding the cost of a presentation tea enjoyed by cruiser members after the President's Trophy Race which was held recently. The cruiser members who had attended in turn kindly agreed to the donation to the club's charity weekend.
The Regatta competitors took part in five close races over the weekend in variable winds. The winners were: Cruisers, Peter and Paul Lewis in an Etap; Asymmetric fleet, Lester Noble and John McAfee in a 49er; Conventional fleet, Cathy Goodwin in a Miracle; Keelboat fleet, Dave and Sue Giles in a Flying Fifteen and Cadet fleet, Jessica Davidson in a Topaz. Twelve-year-old Jessica is a new member and has just taken part in the club’s annual Sail Camp.
