Clear-up with help from our neighbours

Clear-up with help from our neighbours

Arriving by boat with tools in hand, to do their bit for the devastated community, six Outward Bound instructors including Martin Barratt, an UYC member for 40 years and son of the UYC President, spent a day at the club, clearing leaves and storm debris from the high water mark and lending their muscle to help make a start on the big clear-up.
“Their assistance was invaluable and will release UYC volunteer members to do other jobs on site. The club is extremely grateful for their help,” said club secretary Marion Marshall.

The club was badly hit by the storms of the weekend of December 5 and 6 when water levels at Ullswater rose to the highest levels ever. The Lakeland stone and wood clubhouse - club rooms, bar, kitchen, changing rooms and toilets were all flooded to a depth of several feet and many dinghies on the club site were washed from their berths.
