Join us at I am Team GB Day, August 27

FREE sailing taster sessions with special provision for disabled visitors

The taster sessions are completely free and there will be lots of I am Team GB goodies on offer. The club will provide buoyancy aids and helmets - all you need is warm clothing, waterproofs and shoes you don’t mind getting wet. The sessions are for all, from eight to 80+, or younger with parents or guardians, and family groups are welcome.
As part of the day, RYA Sailability, which supports people with disability to take up the sport, have arranged for two fully accessible dinghies and a mobile hoist to be available for use. This will enable anybody, regardless of their ability, an opportunity to sail, showing that sailing is a totally inclusive sport. Staff from RYA Sailability will be present to support the event and provide information and advice on the day.

To celebrate the support the nation gives them by playing The National Lottery, Team GB's returning Olympians will join famous faces from ITV at events across the UK.  Over £80 million has been raised each year by National Lottery players to help fund elite athletes during the four-year build-up to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

To become part of this amazing day out on the bank holiday weekend, the public can visit the I Am Team GB website www.iamteamgb where they can sign up to find out all about the exciting free sporting events and activities in their area. From hockey to handball and rowing to running, hundreds of different sporting activities will be available to try, whatever the level of fitness.

As well as thousands of local sports venues and clubs up and down the country opening their doors to the public, two of ITV’s most iconic shows will be doing the same thing and inviting people to join them on the 27 August. The famous cobbles of Coronation Street and the rolling hills and dales of Emmerdale will be open and welcoming members of the public to take part in a whole host of sporting activities. The events will also be a homecoming for our lottery-funded Olympic athletes returning from Rio, inspiring everyone, no matter what their level of fitness, to come together with Olympic heroes and famous faces from ITV in the biggest ever UK-wide sports day.

To encourage people to get active, ITV will also be switching off their transmission for an hour across all channels to get the nation to get moving. At 9.30am on 27 August, the big switch off will see ITV’s seven channels come off air for an hour to encourage the great British public to get up and out and involved in sport at one of the many events happening across the country. The event is taking place in conjunction with the British Olympic Association (BOA), UK Sport and is supported by Join In.
