#IamUYC - the movie

The five-minute video will be used to promote UYC to prospective new members as well featuring the range of courses and activities run by the club’s Ullswater Sailing School. “We want the video to show what a beautiful place Ullswater is to sail, for learning, leisure sailing and racing and that our family-orientated club has something for everyone,” said club marketing officer Sue Giles. “And what better way than to let our members talk about what the club means to them. The theme of the film is #IamUYC with members, young and old, all telling their own personal stories, and all wearing specially designed new T-shirts with the #IamUYC logo,” she added.

Jonathan, who works for Morecambe-based tourism marketing company Bucket & Spade, spent the day shooting on and off the water. The club’s Sailing Development Officer Charley Steel was filmed with Ullswater Sailing School’s fleet of boats explaining all the courses on offer for both children and adults. Senior sailing instructor and club member Edmund Clarke’s role was ‘going sailing from start to finish.’ He was filmed getting ready to sail, rigging a Laser Bahia, going sailing and then returning to the shore. “We wanted to show to novices exactly what ‘going sailing’ involves,” explained Jonathan.

Other #IamUYC members filmed by Jonathan included Commodore Peter Lewis, teenager Olivia Simpson and her 11-year-old sister Violet, who live near Penrith. And to round it all off there was a mass ‘jump-off’ from the jetty - one of the club youngsters’ (and Steve Potter's) favourites activities. - Sue Giles (4.10.16)
