Push The Boat Out, May 20, 2017

A total of 54 visitors of all ages from throughout the area went afloat at the club to have a taste of what it is like to sail on Cumbria’s most beautiful lake. The visitors, mostly family groups, were taken for a sail by RYA qualified instructors Sam Smith and Olivia Simpson in boats from Ullswater Sailing School’s training fleet.

First on the water were Howard Bousfield and his daughters Hollie and Eve, 11 and 10, from near Penrith, who enjoyed a trip on the water in blustery conditions in a Laser Stratos with Sam Smith. They were followed by a steady stream of visitors with the family groups able to sail together in the Sailing School’s larger boats.

“We had a really busy day and it was a great success. It was good to see so many visitors enjoying themselves at the club,” said the club’s Sailing Development Officer Edmund Clarke, who co-ordinated the event. The visitors were given information about the club and Ullswater Sailing School’s range of RYA courses which include a special offer of discounted sessions on selected Tuesdays and Thursday evenings in June and July for anyone over 14. The Go Sailing 2017 sessions are just £10 for two hours with instruction, kit, and boats all included - (Sue Giles 24.5.17)
