Push The Boat Out, May 19

Push The Boat Out, May 19

The club was taking part in the Royal Yachting Association’s Push The Boat Out Campaign to encourage more people to take to the water. A total of 80 visitors of all ages from throughout the area went afloat at the club to have a taste of what it is like to sail on Cumbria’s most beautiful lake.

The visitors, mostly family groups, were taken for a sail by RYA qualified instructors Jack Neilson, Ben Potter and Olivia Simpson in boats from Ullswater Sailing School’s training fleet. All afternoon there was a steady stream of visitors with the family groups able to sail together in the Sailing School’s larger boats.  “We had a really busy day and it was a great success. It was good to see so many visitors enjoying themselves at the club,” said the club’s Sailing Development Officer Edmund Clarke, who co-ordinated the event.

The visitors were given information about the club and Ullswater Sailing School’s range of RYA courses which include special half term courses from May 28 to June 1. Youngsters aged from eight can learn under the expert guidance of one of Ullswater Sailing School’s RYA qualified instructors. For absolute beginners, the RYA Level 1 course is being held on Monday and Tuesday, May 28 and 29. Then on Thursday and Friday, May 31 and June 1, it’s RYA Level 2.  All equipment, clothing, buoyancy aids and helmets will be provided and the Sailing School has a superb fleet of boats to suit all ages and levels of experience. The club is on the eastern shore of the lake around three miles from Pooley Bridge. It has stunning views of the lake, excellent changing facilities and ample parking. Course costs are £125 per person for two days, £225 for four days. For more details about courses and to book contact Edmund Clarke on 07900855812, email sdo@ullswateryachtclub.org
