FERRY DISRUPTION ON ULLSWATER

FERRY DISRUPTION ON ULLSWATER

Sailors at UYC may notice something is missing over the next two months.  We have received the following message from Ullswater Steamers.

TEMPORARY TIMETABLE IN OPERATION AT ULLSWATER – FLOOD REFURBISHMENT TO POOLEY BRIDGE PIER

We are running a temporary timetable from 31st August until mid October.  Please see our newsletter http://www.ullswater-steamers.co.uk/newsletter.html for further information, outline below.

We apologise to you and your customers for the inconvenience while essential repair work is being carried out on Pooley Bridge Pier. Pooley Bridge Pier will remain out of operation from the 31st August until mid October. We will be running services on a temporary timetable from Glenridding and Howtown Piers in the interim period.

As journey times will vary all “Round the Lake” Trips will have the reduced fare of £9.00, this fare also entitles the holder to a 50% voucher to travel with our sister company Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, valid for up to 12 months.

The repair work on the pier is taking place at this time because any work which disturbs the river and lake bed is only allowed between June and September.  This is to avoid damaging Atlantic salmon eggs which are laid in the river gravels during the autumn and hatch in early spring.  Ullswater ‘Steamers’ are keen to promote enjoyment and protection of the rich biodiversity of the Ullswater area, so we are working with Eden Rivers Trust, Nurture Lakeland and Natural England, to ensure the ecology of the lake is not disturbed. The Visitor donation scheme we operate will direct funds to Eden Rivers Trust during this period.
