New Clubhouse Group members update

The New Clubhouse Group have decided that doing an architectural competition managed by the Royal Institution of British Architects (RIBA) will enable us to see and select from a far greater range of design concepts than the previous plan of selecting at the outset a single architectural practice.
Through this approach we hope to see some really exciting design ideas and also how they can be environmentally friendly, have low operating costs and achieve our cost target. We all know that we have a unique site with great views and this represents an opportunity to see a clubhouse for the future that really sets UYC apart from other clubs.
We have now developed with RIBA Competitions a two stage process that in Stage 1, invites UK architects to come up with design concepts for the new clubhouse and in Stage 2, sees the winning practice complete the feasibility deliverables including cost estimate.
Our plan is to make the National Park Planning Authority aware of the competition before it starts and to take to them our preferred design concept and some alternatives at the end of Stage 1 so that we ideally only take one design with one architectural practice into Stage 2.
RIBA Competitions will be hosting the competition on its website from 10th December, and will be the point of contact for all entrants throughout the competition. Anyone wishing to access the brief will be able to download it from
Looking ahead the two stages will be finished in May 2011 and after taking the conclusions to the management committee we will be doing members open sessions in June and July to show the results of the competition.
Any questions can be sent to Brian Moreton ( who is leading the New Clubhouse Group but please remember there is an AGM in 2011 before the project moves into the design and planning phase.
