RIBA Design Competition Entrants on Site

RIBA Design Competition Entrants on Site

When I gave an update before Christmas we were all excited about the positive response from the National Park Planning and that 69 Architects and Practices had entered the RIBA Design Competition.

Now we are at the end of January we have just been blown away with the response. We have over 200 entrants and 50 Architects and Practices have visited the Club on 3 Open Mornings and at other times thanks to Bill’s help.
John Innerdale and I have been at these Open Mornings and the thing that has really struck us is the interest people are showing in trying to understand what makes Ullswater Yacht Club the great Club it is today and what can they do in their Designs to improve it.
We have been careful not to discuss names of Architects and Practices or their Design thoughts but a number have won RIBA Design Competitions for new Yacht Clubs in the UK and others have done Yacht Club Designs. Many have talked about their excitement in entering into the Competition and often they have not just sent a representative but a small team.
We must now sit back and wait for the Designs to be submitted and reviewed against the Brief by the RIBA before they are handed over to UYC for the RIBA Judging late February.
Again if you have not looked at the Competition Brief but still want to this can be accessed from the RIBA website which is
Also any questions can be sent to Brian Moreton ( who is leading the New Clubhouse Group but please remember that Designs will be on show in the Clubhouse by end May and forward plans will be presented at the AGM in 2011.
