The water level at the Club continues to fall steadily - you can now see the tops of the posts along the edges of the jetties.
A small action group, the nucleus of the Site Maintenance Commitee plus John Innerdale (Club member and architect) and myself, is taking forward the repairs project, but of couse major decisions will be referred to the main Management Committee.
We have had a very positive first meeting with the claims manager appointed by our insurers to oversee our claim. The first step will be a structural survey report on the building: this will be put in hand next week. This will lead to an action plan and schedule of works. Once we have agreement on these, we can appoint a project manager and contractors to get on with the repair work. Damaged contents have been identified and we already have authority to dispose of and replace these. Estimates for repair of the two Club boats that were damaged will be sought, though one may need to be written off. We have cover for loss of revenue and for the cost of temporary facilities to ensure that our sailing programme can go ahead next season as planned. It is unlikely that all parts of the clubhouse will be fully operational from the start of the season, but be assured that we shall still be racing, cruising, welcoming visiting sailors and generally enjoying ourselves on the lake as usual.
Watch out for further bulletins when there is anything of significance to report. Thank you to all those members who have offered help and support, but for the moment we have eveything we need. For your own safety we would ask you to stay away from the site, unless you are collecting a dinghy, and in no circumstances to try and enter the clubhouse.
