Calling all UYC Laser sailors
27 April 2011 (210 reads)

Important change of date.

GBR Laser Coach, our very own Tim Hulse, due to being just so darn popular with the RYA, and getting married, (well lets face it you’re not IN with the IN-crowd if you don’t have your wedding in April this year), has had to bring the date of his URDP Laser training forward to this coming Sunday, the 1st May.
So he is rushing back from his honeymoon just for you lot.
I know you won’t let him down.
Its open to all UYC Laser sailors of all standards.
So if you want to get tuned in to the most up-to-date Laser techniques then be there in your gear 10am Sunday Morning. It will be a great day.

Normal URDP training will follow at 4.15pm, and is open to all UYC sailors, not just Lasers.
The subject is going to be Starting.

Going forward in 2011
03 February 2011 (298 reads)

Despite the disruptive year, with one thing and ‘another’, URDP continue on in 2011 with quite an exciting agenda. There will be more informal Friendly Coaching Clinics  for 2011. They are open to all UYC members who want to improve their racing and designed to be friendly, enjoyable, and without the shouting you may hear in normal racing. (If there are any ‘rights of ways issues’ arise during the session the idea is to log it down and then discuss it in the debrief.)  As usual the intention is to have at least six 1hr(ish) sessions throughout the season at the usual time of 4.30pm on the designated Saturdays but in addition we may squeeze some Saturday mornings now that we have our own rib that we can use.

Dates confirmed so far;
Sat 9th April    4.15/4.30pm (ish) All Classes- Basic Upwind strategy
Sun 1st May    4.15/4.30pm (ish) All Classes- Starting
Sat 7th May     9.30am Laser specific- training with our resident GBR RYA Laser coach, Tim Hulse
Sat 14th May    TBA keep your eyes on this page and it should be announced by 9th May
Sat 21st May    TBA keep your eyes on this page and it should be announced by 16th May
Sun 29th May    TBA keep your eyes on this page and it should be announced by 24h May
Sat 9th July       TBA keep your eyes on this page and it should be announced by 4th July
Sat 13th August TBA keep your eyes on this page and it should be announced by 8th August
Sat 1st October TBA keep your eyes on this page and it should be announced by 26th September

Also the Buddy Coaching, which was introduced in 2010, will continue for 2011. In a slight departure from 2010 where we had specific Coaches for each Buddy, for 2011 we will post the list of Coaches on the news-board in the clubhouse and each UYC sailor who would like to seek advice on technique, tuning, strategy, even fitness now that we have our own in-house personal trainer, etc...can approach any of the listed coaches for a one-to-one discussion.
Coaches will be listed on the club notice-board (and this site) by the 26th March

To help the Buddy Coaches with their knowledge and therefore improve the quality of the advice passed on, Paul Brotherton will be running a  “Coaching the Coach” weekend on February 26/27th.  This weekend is deliberately scheduled before the new season opens, and will be theoretical in its approach. For those of you budding Buddy coaches who would like to take-part we may have one to two spaces available. If interested then contact Lester but be aware anybody taking part will be expected to offer advice as a Buddy Coach and may be called upon to head up one of the on-the-water Friendly Coaching Clinics.

And finally, well done to Joe and Murph for winning the Laser 3000 nationals and also to Matty and James for their 5th place at the 49er nationals. You are now officially enrolled as a Buddy Coach. Although only small, we like to think the URDP played its part.

Let me know if there is anything else needed
Lester

PS happy birthday
